2002 (prinzentables)
The workshop at the ISI Art Institute of Yogyakarta took place
in feb./march 2002 as part of a cultural exchange program
between Liechtenstein and Indonesia. The exhibition at the
Taman Budaya lasted from march 1st march 5th. With
7 students the basic concept and the already realized projects
and actions of www.DerPrinz.li was analysed and discussed.
Than the group developped 8 table installations for the exhibition.
The subject: myself as a projection figure, as a prince or
a princess, the table as a respective field of projection.
The place: a house for culture on the grounds of the Benteng
Vredeburg, a compound for the colonial power and exploitation,
today used as a museum and exhibition place.
Arya Pandjalu built a 3
dimensional comic with war playfigures using a japanese comic
monster as a warmonger, declaring "I am the real prince!".
Alexander Nawangseto encloses his princeheart into a birdcage.
In front of it he sets small vases with artificial flowers
on top of little earthern hills. Only the the flowers farthest
away are put directly into the earth. Dani Agus Yuniarto shows
the princely life as row of playing cards that bites its own
tail. The jokers are placed in the 4 corners and turn their
backs at the scenery. Wildan Antares sets his princely selfportrait
in between a bible and a koran and draws a line of freedom
and pressures, that leads to a lightened black circle with
the word "amen". Lenny Ratnasari visions herself
as the princess of the mountains. She shows relicts of the
still present and also publicly announced vodoo culture of
Indonesia and asks the audience to leave hairs and fingernails
in order to find out more about themselves or other people
through her magic. Elvira Amor Melones sets up a table for
a princely dinner with plate that are neither squares nor
circles, but something in between. "Eat my ideas,"
she posts and adds ironically: "You get it?". Arie
Dyanto installs a burning prince of rage. Somewhere between
a kitschy messiah and a demanding political activist his figure
leads into a deeper level of perception, where questions follow
questions. The table of www.DerPrinz.li is inscribed with
"why haven't though cometh to wrap my wounds". A
laying figure is symbolized. Fotos of bodyparts, a row of
funnels like small stupas, 2 white gloves with stigmas, a
crown filled with a broken ceramic pot and decaying flowers,
a small tower next to it, supporting a soap spender that spits
its content into the crown...
